Boston, Mass. – For the second time this season, Clark University senior guard Nicholas DaPrato (Marshfield, Mass.) has been named the New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's basketball player of the week it was announced by the league office on Monday.
DaPrato was magnificent again in the Cougars' lone contest last week, racking up 31 points, eight rebounds and five steals as Clark dispatched of city rival Worcester State, 63-58.
He shot 50 percent from the field (12-for-24) and a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. During a key stretch in the contest when the Cougars' took the lead for good midway through the first half, DaPrato scored ten straight Clark points en route to his second game this season with 30 points or more and fifth with 20 or more.
The honor for Clark is the third time in the first five weeks in which a Cougar has earned the weekly award this season but DaPrato is the first Clark player to win multiple weekly awards since Mark Alexander earned the honor twice during the 2009-10 season (January 4, February 15).
Meanwhile, DaPrato has emerged as one of the best scorers in New England through the first portion of the year. He leads the NEWMAC in scoring (20.8), ranks third in free throw percentage (84.6), first in steals (2.4), third in three-point attempts (56) and sixth in three-pointers made (17).
Now 7-2 overall, Clark will return to action on Sunday, December 29 when they take part in the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Tournament in Pittsford, N.Y. against Thomas College.
