-The Lead: The Clark University field hockey team dropped a non-conference contest with the Lancers on Worcester State University in a cross-town battle on Thursday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Despite the Lancers outshooting Clark 10-0 in the first half, senior goalkeeper Dani Michaud (Providence, R.I.) made six saves to hold onto the 0-0 tie heading into the halftime break.
-Just over seven minutes into the second stanza the Lancers broke through when a series of passes from Jess Wilding (Somerset, Mass.) and Sarah Duff (Warren, Mass.) helped land the ball on the stick of junior Olivia Antonelli (Westford, Mass.) who knocked in her 14th goal of the season for the 1-0 lead.
-16 minutes later the hosts added an insurance goal when sophomore Lauren Fleming (Leominster, Mass.) dished the ball to Lexie Panagiotopoulos (Lowell, Mass.) who tallied her first goal of the season for the 2-0 advantage.
-Clark took charge for the remaining 12 minutes of play as they were awarded three penalty corners and rattled off four shots, including two from senior Olivia Barksdale (Fort Washington). The Lancers held on for the 2-0 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Worcester State outshot Clark 17-4 (13-2 shots on goal) and held a 6-3 advantage in penalty corners.
-Michaud (5-8) made 11 saves in the setback for Clark. Worcester State's Jess Hopkins made two saves in the victory and improves to 12-6 this season.
-Clark travels to Smith College on Saturday, October 27th, to close out the 2018 season in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference tilt at 2:00 p.m.
-Worcester State hosts Plymouth State in their final regular season game on the same day at 12:00 p.m.
