Field Hockey Battles to 4-3 Victory Over Golden Bears

The Lead: The Clark University field hockey team battled their way to a 4-3 victory over the Golden Bears of Western New England University on Saturday afternoon. It was a full team effort as four different Cougars tallied goals and four more posted assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The Golden Bears took the first lead of the game when Jacquline Clark (Auburn, Mass.) tallied her third goal of the season with 20 minutes on the clock.

-Clark responded just three minutes later when sophomore Chase Collier (Lisbon, Maine) found senior Olivia Barksdale (Fort Washington, Md.) in the circle who buried it behind Western New England goalkeeper, Dana Dufour (Gloucester, Mass.), to tie the game at 1-1.

-The visitors were able to take a lead heading into the halftime break as Clark tallied her second goal of the game on an assist from sophomore Haley Daigneault (Longmeadow, Mass.) (2-1). The Golden Bears held the momentum and extended their lead to 3-1 when Daigneault got herself on the board with 26 minutes to play.

-Clark fought back with a goal three minutes later as junior Mikayla Pantano (East Bridgewater, Mass.) tipped in a pass on the post from sophomore Cheyanne Zappala (Laconia, N.H.). Senior Dani Michaud (Providence, R.I.) came up with two saves that helped the Cougars have time to tie the game with 10 minutes to play. Freshman Emma Boland (Redding, Conn.) tallied her first career goal to tie the contest at 3 apiece.

-With seven minutes on the clock Zappala knocked in the game-winner on a penalty corner play that Carden Maloney (Worcester, Mass.) had a hand in with the assist as the Cougars took home the 4-3 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-Pantano and Zappala led the Cougars with a goal and an assist each.

-Michaud made a game-changing 16 saves in net and improves to 3-0 on the season.

-Dufour made four saves in the setback and falls to 0-2 on the season.

-Western New England outshot Clark 26-13.

-The Golden Bears were awarded six corners and the Cougars were awarded four.
