-The Lead: The Clark University field hockey team picked up a 2-1 non-conference road victory over the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales on a rainy Wednesday evening. Junior Olivia Barksdale (Fort Washington, Md.) lifted the Cougars to victory with both goals on the night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Cougars got on the board first with a goal just five minutes into play. Clark was awarded a penalty corner that was sent out to Cheyanne Zappala (Laconia, N.H.). Zappala fired a shot to Barksdale who was on the post to tip the ball in for the early 1-0 lead.
-15 minutes into the second half Barksdale struck again on another penalty corner to give Clark the 2-0 lead.
-With nine minutes to play in the game the Wildcats cut Clark's lead to 2-1 on a goal from Giovanna Ciavardoni (Latham, N.Y.) that was assisted by Shaina Thompson (Delmar, Del.). That was as close as they would come though and the Cougars took the ultimate 2-1 victory.
