The Lead: The Clark University field hockey team fell on the road to the Eagles of Husson University in a non-conference match-up on Tuesday evening. The Eagles' powerful offense produced 43 total shots while junior goalkeeper, Dani Michaud (Providence, R.I.) made 20 saves for the Cougars.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Eagles dominated the stat sheet in the first half, overpowering the Cougars 21-1 in shots. However, they only managed to score one goal. Freshman Ali Bourget (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) netted an unassisted goal to give Husson the 1-0 lead with just under 10 minutes to play in the half.
-Husson's offense immediately turned it on in the second period as senior Taylor Shaw (Plymouth, Maine) scored her seventh goal of the season off of a Bourget pass. The Eagles added another goal in the 50:29 minute to give themselves a 3-0 lead. Senior Mikayla Toth (Skowhegan, Maine) collected her ninth career goal, with Bourget being credited for her second assist of the game.
-The Cougars spoiled the Eagles shutout hopes in the 51st minute when sophomore Julia D'Antonio (Ramsey, N.J.) knocked in her first career goal off of a corner play.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Husson senior Anne Marie Provencal posted two saves on three shots on goal in the HU victory
-Michaud tallied an impressive 20 saves, in a losing effort.
-The Eagles outshot the Cougars 43-4 and were awarded eight penalty corners to Clark's three.
-Clark hosts Worcester State University in non-conference action on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 6:00 p.m. at the Granger Field Hockey Complex.
-The Eagles will travel to Castleton University for a 12:00 p.m. conference game on Saturday, October 14.
