The Lead: The Clark University field hockey team powered to a 3-0 shut-out victory over neighboring Becker College on Thursday evening in non-conference action. The energized offense fired a total of 53 shots (31 on goal) for the home team.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-The Cougars got on the board just two minutes into play as freshman Chase Collier (Lisbon, Maine) stole the ball from a Hawk defender and charged toward the goal, firing a shot to the left side for the 1-0 lead.
-Clark took 21 shots over the next 18 minutes before adding a second goal with 15 minutes to play in the first half. Liz Grady (Worcester, Mass.) created a break-away opportunity for herself and notched her second goal of the season for the 2-0 lead.
-The Hawks earned their first penalty corner opportunity with under four minutes to play in the first half, but the Cougar defense proved to be too strong and the home team took the 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
-The Hawk's defense held strong for the first 20 minutes of the second half before Collier and Olivia Barksdale (Fort Washington, Md.) came charging down the field. Barksdale swept a shot to the left side of Becker goalkeeper, Alexis Barry (Manchester, N.H.) following a smooth give and go combo from Collier to Barksdale.
-The Cougars were awarded a penalty corner with 13 second on the clock and with time expired the Hawks held the Clark offense off but the Cougars took the ultimate 3-0 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
