Field Hockey Stumbles Against Corsairs, 5-0

Worcester, Mass. – UMass-Dartmouth won its second straight contest behind an offense that put five goals on the board enroute to a shutout win over host Clark University in non-league field hockey action on Tuesday evening.

Game Information
UMass-Dartmouth 5, Clark University 0
Clark 3-2, UMass-Dartmouth 2-3
Location: Granger Turf Field, Worcester, Mass.

How It Happened:
The visiting Corsairs scored a pair of goals in the first ten minutes of action and never looked back in rolling to a convincing 5-0 win over Clark. Mary Brown (Leicester, Mass.) put the guests on the board in the fourth minute and less than a minute later Delaney Burns (Wayne, N.J.) added her first of the night.

Before the half ended, UMD was at it again with Burns taking a feed from Erin Kish (Littleton, Mass.) to bump their lead to 3-0.

Ciara Anderson (Medway, Mass.) fed Burns for another marker in the 49th minute, giving her the hat trick and then Haley Donahay (Cranston, R.I.) tacked on the final score for the Corsairs at 64:45.

Star of the Night:
Without question it was Burns, who now has a team-high seven goals and ten points in her last two contests.

Inside The Numbers:
The Corsairs held a 9-3 edge in shots and their netminder – Sam Brun (Dighton, Mass.) – didn't need to make a save to record the victory.

Up Next:
The Cougars return to the field on Friday evening when they host Babson College in the NEWMAC season opener at 6:00 p.m.
