Weston, Mass. – Olivia Barksdale (Fort Washington, Md.) recorded her second career hat trick and her fourth multi-goal outing as Clark University snapped a four game losing streak with 3-0 win over Regis College on Saturday afternoon in non-league field hockey action.
The win for the Cougars improves their record to 3-5 on the year, while the Pride slip back to .500 at 3-3.
Almost the entire first half went by before either team cracked the scoring column but Barksdale sent the Scarlet and White into halftime with a 1-0 lead when Megan Tighe (Simsbury, Conn.) set her up for her eighth marker of the season at 33:16.
Clark then doubled that advantage early in the second stanza when Lauren Mackey (Dublin, N.H.) fed Barksdale for another strike in the 49th minute.
That combination was at it again less than three minutes later as Mackey connected with Barksdale for the first-year's tenth tally of the season at 51:05.
Clark controlled much of the action on the afternoon, outshooting the hosts, 24-5 and holding a 19-1 edge in penalty corners.
Dani Michaud (Providence, R.I.) made the first start of her career for the Cougars and only needed to make one save to record her first win and shutout.
For Regis, meanwhile, Raegan Heck (Phillipston, Mass.) saw strong in the cage, turning aside 11 shots.
Clark will return to action when they wrap up the non-league portion of its schedule with Thursday's home contest against Elms College. That game is slated for 7:00 p.m.
