THE BASICS

-Location: New London, Conn.

-The Lead: Senior Cal Slepkow (Rehoboth, Mass.) pitched a complete game and allowed just three hits and one earned run leading Clark to a 3-2 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) battle on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Cougars struck first in the third on a RBI single by junior Collin Porter (Brookfield, Conn.) and added another run, an unearned run in the sixth, on an RBI single by junior Andrew Thibault (Nashua, N.H.) for a 2-0 lead.

-Coast Guard would get an unearned run in the sixth as junior Alex Cordes (Delray Beach, Fla.) reached on an error and scored on a throwing error to cut the deficit to 2-1.

-Porter's RBI double in the seventh gave the Cougars an important insurance run pushing the lead to 3-1.

-In the ninth, senior Will Stephens (Raleigh, N.C.) led off with double and scored on an RBI single by his classmate Luke Thompson (San Ramon, Calif.) to make the score 3-2 with one out, but Thompson was stranded at first to end the game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

- Slepkow pitched his third complete game of the season and recorded his NEWMAC best seventh win of the season as he walked two and struck out five. He is now tied in Clark baseball program history for the most wins in a season as he improved to 7-3 overall this season.

-Porter had two of the Cougar's four hits of the game. Thibault finished with a hit and an RBI while junior Ryan Ruhlin (Portland, Maine) added a hit in the victory.

-PJ Gravalec (Marrieta, Ga.) took the loss of the mound for Coast Guard as he worked 6 2/3 innings allowing four hits and a pair of earned runs while walking three and fanning six. Dustin Reeder (Lincoln, Del.) pitched the final 2 1/3 innings and did not allow a hit while walking one and striking out two.
