-The Lead: Head Coach J.P. Pyne picked up his 200th career win today as the Clark University baseball team shut out the Bison of Nichols College, 4-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Cougars scored three of their four runs in the first inning. Kyle Bonicki (Waterbury, Conn.) got things starts with a double down the left field line and junior Zach Kelley (Hadley, Mass.) got on base with a hit to the six hole. Sophomore Derek Lefebvre (Groton, Mass.) singled to left center to score Bonicki and a two RBI double to deep left field from freshman Nick Jordan (Seaford, N.Y.) gave the Cougars the 3-0 lead.
-With two outs Clark scored one more run in the bottom of the seventh when senior Teddy Downing (Cambridge, Mass.) doubled down the left field line to score Bonicki (4-0).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Bonick went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored to lead the Cougars. Jordan was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
-Freshman Shay Souza (Mashpee, Mass.) went 2-for-3 for the Bison.
-Freshman Sean Savage (Berkley Heights, N.J.) earned the win on the mound for Clark going 7.1 innings posting a strikeout and no runs scored. He improves to 1-0 this season.
-Clark heads to Wheaton College on Saturday, March 31st for two New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference games starting at 12:00 p.m.
-Nichols heads to Saint Joseph's (Maine) on Friday, March 30th for a game at 3:00 p.m.
