Norton, Mass. – Wheaton College had two big offensive innings and that proved to be enough as the host Lyons swept the season series with Clark University, knocking off the Cougars for the second time in less than a week, collecting a 9-3 win over the Scarlet and White on Wednesday afternoon.
Score: Wheaton College 9, Clark University 3
Records: Wheaton College (11-6, 3-1 NEWMAC); Clark University (17-6, 2-4 NEWMAC)
Location: Sidell Stadium, Norton, Mass.
How It Happened:
Clark actually jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second when Chris Dibble (Manchester, Conn.) delivered a two-run single to left that scored Tyler Hutchinson (Greene, Maine) and Zach Kelley (Hadley, Mass.) in support of Connor Walsh (Marstons Mills, Mass.).
The Lyons answered back with four runs in the bottom of the third highlighted by a two-run single from Zach Goodwin-Boyd.
Down 4-2, the Cougars grabbed a run back in the top of the sixth when Adam Chochrek (Foxboro, Mass.) crushed a solo homerun to left – his league-leading sixth of the year.
Unfortunately for the Scarlet and White that would be the last time they would score and Wheaton tacked on five more runs over the final three innings, including a solo homer from Joey Santigate and a two-run double from Matt Cook.
