Boston, Mass. – For the first time in his career, Clark University ace Derek Dubois (Haverhill, Mass.) has been named New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Pitcher of the Week it was announced on Monday afternoon by the league office.
Dubois was masterful in a 13-1 win over Emerson College on Saturday in the team's league opener. He went seven strong innings, allowing just one hit while striking out 11 and walking just two. At one point, he retired 15 straight batters including striking out five of six batters.
So far this season, Dubois ranks second in the league in strikeouts (22) behind teammate Miles Sheehan (Madison, Conn.) and now has 126 career strikeouts in 115 innings of work.
It marks the second time this season a Clark baseball student-athlete has won a weekly league award. Dan Lima (Manchester, Conn.) was named player of the week back on March 10.
Clark returns to the diamond on Tuesday afternoon with a crucial road test at league rival Wheaton College. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
