Sean Sullivan, director of athletics and recreation at Clark University, has informed us that he is resigning to accept a position at Catholic University.
Sean has been at Clark since February 2011. In that time he has continued to professionalize the department with several strong hires. His focus has been on mentoring his coaches and athletic staff, and he has set very high standards for them and for our student-athletes. He has ensured that Clark epitomizes the tradition of the true scholar-athlete, and during his tenure our student-athletes have reached impressive benchmarks for cumulative GPA, matriculation, retention, and graduation rates.
Sean has worked closely with Jim Collins and Physical Plant directors Paul Bottis (retired) and Mike Dawley to improve Clark’s athletic facilities, culminating this fall with the opening of the 7,000-square-foot addition to the Bickman Fitness Center. Working with Andy McGadney in University Advancement, he increased engagement with alumni athletes, primarily through the establishment of the Athletics Alumni Advisory Board; he also collaborated with Don Honeman and the Admissions staff to raise the number of highly qualified student-athlete recruits in recent first-year classes (approximately 100 in 2013).
We thank Sean for his service to Clark and wish him well in his new position.
Trish Cronin, assistant athletic director/senior women’s administrator, will serve as interim athletic director, effective Thursday, Sept. 26. Trish joined the Clark staff in August 2010 and has worked to improve conditioning and training services, and has assumed responsibility for fitness and recreational programs. This summer, she oversaw the furnishing, equipping and programming for the expanded Bickman Center.
We appreciate Trish’s willingness to step up at this time. Sean will stay on in a consulting capacity until Nov. 1 to ensure a smooth transition. A search for a permanent athletic director will begin later this fall.
