Worcester, Mass. – Following a second consecutive 20+ win regular season, the Clark University volleyball team has secured the No. 3 seed in the upcoming New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Tournament the league office announced late Saturday evening.
The Cougars will host sixth-seeded Wellesley College on Tuesday, November 1 at 7:00 p.m. at the Kneller Athletic Center.
Clark finished the NEWMAC schedule at 7-3, while the Blue wrapped up the ten match slate at 5-5. The Scarlet and White were actually tied with Babson at 7-3 but by virtue of their head-to-head 3-1 win over the Beavers back on September 24, they earned the third seed.
These two teams meet earlier in the season and Clark came away with a 3-0 win behind 16 kills and 18 digs by Marina Ramos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) and 39 assists from Rachel Webb (Celina, Texas). However, reigning league rookie of the Year Yasmine Reece didn't play in that match for the Blue. She missed five matches during an 0-5 stretch for Wellesley but she has returned to form it seems having recorded three straight double figure kill efforts, including 17 in a loss at Springfield on Saturday.
MIT, who finished the regular season at 10-0 and have gone 28-2 against league competition in regular season play in the last three seasons combined, will host the semifinals and finals on Saturday, November 5 and Sunday, November 6.
Most will remember this is the exact path the Clark traveled last season on their way to the program's first-ever NEWMAC Championship appearance.
