Fair Honored By NEWVA
Bristol, R.I.- Clark senior Maritza Fair (The Bronx, N.Y.) has been named to the New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) All New England Senior honorable mention it has been announced.
Thirty-two seniors and 10 honorable mention seniors have earned the honor recognizing their contributions to collegiate volleyball in New England.
Fair finished her 2010 season as the team leader in kills and second in digs as Clark ended their season at 13-12 and a quarterfinal appearance in the NEWMAC Tournament.
Fair and the other honored individuals will be recognized at the Annual NEWVA Coaches meeting held Sunday, Nov. 14, at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass. In addition, the honorees have the opportunity to participate in a seminar on Sunday, "The Wisdom of Volleyball: Lessons that move from the Court into Life," led by motivational speaker and Tufts Volleyball alum Tracy Carreiro.
Players were selected by a vote of all participating member head coaches following the nomination process. The full list of honorees represents 30 different institutions from NCAA Division III volleyball programs across New England and seven different conferences.
The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) boasts 16 players among the top 32, followed by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) with seven. Four players from The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) earned the honor, three from the University Athletic Association (UAA) and one from both the Greater Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and the Little East Conference.
Established nearly 25 years ago, the New England Women's Volleyball Association is open to all collegiate institutions in New England sponsoring Division III women's volleyball. Membership has grown to nearly 60 members in 2010, representing eight conferences.
