Suriano Named NEWMAC Player of the Week

Babson Park, Mass. – Freshman sensation Gaby Suriano (San Salvador, El Salvador) was named New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s tennis player of the week for the second time this season it was announced by the conference office earlier this week.

Suriano went 2-0 in her singles matches last week and improved to 3-0 overall on the season with all of her matches being played at No. 1.

In a 7-2 loss to Simmons, Suriano had a hand in both Cougar points, registering a straight set singles win (6-1, 6-1) and then teamed with classmate Sarah Sachs (Branford, Conn.) for a victory at No. 1 doubles (8-5).

Then in an 8-1 loss to defending NEWMAC champion Wheaton, Suriano secured Clark’s only point with another straight set win (6-0, 6-1) at No. 1 singles over a nationally ranked opponent.

The Cougars are back in action on Tuesday when they host Emmanuel College beginning at 5:00 p.m.
