In the latest edition of 30 Second On The Clock, senior Brooke Tasse discusses her love of the uniqueness of her fellow Clarkies, her parents' commitment to her and her swim meets, and why a television show that hasn't made a new episode in nearly a decade is still her favorite.
When Did You Start Swimming?
I've loved the water since I was six months old and joined a swim team when I was six years old. I wanted to join the team when I was more like four years old but I wasn't allowed to because of age restrictions so I just watched my sister instead.
What's Your Favorite Part Of Being A Student At Clark?
I think my favorite part of being a student at Clark is how unique everyone is. There are people from everywhere at Clark, it's so interesting to hear different people's views or even just how differently you grew up! It makes me want to travel and learn more about different parts of the world because I've lived in Massachusetts my whole life.
Do You Have Any Time Management Secrets When It Comes To Balancing Academics And Being A Student-Athlete Who Has A Season That Runs So Long?
I'm still great at procrastinating even though I don't really have the time for it, but that would still be my advice, try as hard as you can to keep up with your work and not put it off. I also really like to make lists, like to-do lists and I think that helps a lot because you can check things off and see how productive you're being, and it also ensures you don't forget about an assignment. I also have a weekly schedule in my planner with all my class, work, and practice times so I know what my day looks like and when I have free time.
What Is The Biggest Advantage Of You Going To College So Close To Home?
Definitely the fact that my parents can come to almost all of my swim meets, and they do! I can always count on my mom, who is a swim coach herself, to be up in the stands with her stopwatch timing every event and yelling so loud she's the only one I can hear underwater. I think my dad is still just amazed at what swimmers can do because he's such a great athlete himself but it's one of only things he can't manage to do better than I can!
What Has Been Your Fondest Memory About Being A Student-Athlete At Clark Thus Far?
I think the best part about being a student-athlete at Clark is that your team is always there for you, like your family away from home. At least that's how it is with the swim team, I've met some of my best friends on the team and become friends with people I may have never known if we didn't both chose to swim.
What Is Something You Know Now That You Wish You Knew When You Were A Freshman?
It actually goes by as fast as everyone says it does. I was just talking to my roommate the other day about graduating this year and we both agreed it feels like we graduated high school this past June. So don't take anything or anyone for granted because it's a really short but important part of your life and it should be fun.
Who Is Your Favorite Person To Follow On Twitter And Why?
I don't really use twitter that much anymore but when I do, one of my friend's younger sisters always has the funniest tweets.
What Is An App You Can't Live Without And Why?
That's a tough question, because realistically I can probably live without all of them. But, I'd definitely be really sad without Pandora and The Weather Channel. I really like to listen to music when I work out, or do homework or anything and I also like to know the weather, I'm not sure why but I check it on my phone almost every morning when I wake up before practice.
What Song Plays Nonstop On Your iPod?
I usually go through phases of loving a few songs for awhile till I find new ones I like, but I don't really have any music on my phone so I usually just play Pandora. I love country music so "Today's Country" radio on Pandora is my go-to but I also like to switch it up depending on my mood, so sometimes I like to listen to oldies, and when I'm working out it's usually rap or hip hop.
It's Late Night At The Bistro, What Are You Getting?
My late night craving is usually ice cream so I don't think I ever got as into late night bistro as most people did, but if I do go I usually go for nachos.
What Is Your Dream Job?
My dream job definite involves being able to travel, I don't think I could ever work at a desk job. I'm also really interested in nutrition and personal training so hopefully I'll be helping make people healthier! I'm not exactly sure what I want to do so I'm just going to take every opportunity I can and do things that I enjoy.
What Is The Best Part About Going To School On An Urban Campus?
I think the best part is that everything is pretty close so even if you don't have a car it's not impossible to go places. The escort program makes it even easier if you don't feel comfortable walking. The other thing is that there are a lot of job opportunities off campus. I'm lucky enough to have a car so I have a waitressing job a little farther away on Shrewsbury street, but there are plenty of different businesses on Main street and Park Avenue where students can find jobs as well.
If There Was One Thing You Could Change About Clark What Would It Be?
I think if there was one thing I could change about Clark it would be their policy on meal swipes. I think people should be able to use them whenever they want and as many times as they want. If you're paying for 15 or 19 meals a week, why does it matter when you use them?
Favorite TV Show?
Friends, I started watching it when I was pretty young and have seen every episode. It's still one of my number one picks when I'm watching TV, it's not on that often, but it's usually on nick at nite from 11 pm to 1 am if I have a late night!
Name One Thing On Your Bucket List?
I feel like my bucket list is endless, but if I had to choose one I'd say hike the Appalachian Trail. I love mountains and nature, and I think it would be a challenging and awesome experience.
