Boston, Mass. – Six Clark University women's soccer student-athletes have been named to the 2016 New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference team it was announced this morning by Executive Director Patrick Summers.
Kara Fischer (Belmont, Mass.), Macy Golman (Dallas, Texas), Simone McGuinness (Chevy Chase, Md.), Eliza Meltzer (Framingham, Mass.), Rylee Simons (Weston, Fla.) and Katherine Swierk (Saugus, Mass.) comprise the list from Clark.
Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2016 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at his institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
With freshmen not be eligible to receive the honor, it marks the first time that Golman, Meltzer, and Simons have appeared on the list, while McGuinness and Swierk are two-time selections and Fischer is a three-time honoree.
These academic accolades come on the heels of the program earning National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Honors a little more than two weeks ago.
In addition, Fischer was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team early last week. She will see her name move on to the national ballot where she will look to become just the fourth Academic All-American in school history.
Clark wrapped up its 2016 season last Saturday, missing out on the postseason on regular season's final day. However, 2016 was a marked improvement over the previous season as they went from two wins in 2015 to an 8-9-1 record this past season.
