Worcester, Mass. – Angelina Estrada found the perfect time to score her first goal of the season and Elms College stunned Clark University 1-0 in a non-league women's soccer matchup of teams with a combined record of 13-2-2 coming into the night on Tuesday evening.
Score: Elms College 1, Clark University 0
Records: Clark University 6-2-1, Elms College 8-1-1
Location: Granger Soccer Turf, Worcester, Mass.
How It Happened:
With the clock winding down and the match seeming destined for overtime, Estrada got hold of a bouncing ball that came into the box and split a pair of Clark defenders. She swung her left foot, redirecting the ball past a diving Julianna Christy (Plainville, Conn.) for the game's lone score with just 1:24 left on the clock.
News You Need:
Clark actually had a pair of golden chances to get on the board in the second half but they couldn't convert either time. First, Alyssa Moreau (Huntington, Mass.) was able to corral a loose ball away from Blazer netminder Rebecca Molin near the right corner of the goal but her rolling shot never hooked in and stayed straight across the goal mouth in the 61st minute.
The Cougars other chance came in the 84th minute when Macy Golman (Dallas, Texas) sped up the right sideline to the end line and sent a ball to Moreau but her header attempt sailed wide left.
The Cougars return to action on Sunday when they travel north to face New England College at 1:00 p.m. For the Blazers, meanwhile, they are back on the pitch on Saturday when they return to league play for a home contest with Becker.
