Worcester, Mass. – Clark University women's soccer head coach Brie Smith has named Kara Fischer (Belmont, Mass.) and Emma Deneault (Holden, Mass.) captains for the 2016 season it was announced on Wednesday.
"Kara and Emma are doing an excellent job setting the tone for this young team," said Smith. "They each have their own unique approach to leadership but are equally committed to this program. They want nothing more than to see this program succeed."
Fischer had a breakout junior campaign in 2015, leading the team in goals (six) and points (15) while finishing second on the squad in assists (three). She made a name for herself as a sophomore when she scored the lone goal in the Scarlet and White's dramatic 1-0 win at Babson in 2015.
She has started all 36 contests over the last two seasons and appeared in 45 overall during her career. A two-time Academic All-Conference selection, Fischer has been named to the Dean's List in all six of her previous semesters and was a team captain in 2015.
Deneault, meanwhile, has started every game of her career on the backline since arriving two seasons ago. Now a junior, Deneault figures to continue playing a huge role in the development of the program and will anchor a back four that has given up two or fewer goals in 22 of the 36 contests she has appeared in.
"Emma brings a much needed level of intensity to this year's leadership," said Smith. "She demands hard work and accountability, and her teammates respect her for it."
Clark opens up it 2016 season at home on Thursday against Nichols College – a team they defeated 2-1 a season ago.
