Cougars Net Season-Opening 2-0 Win
Worcester, Mass. – The Clark University women’s soccer team opened up their 2010 season in fine fashion, posting a 2-0 win over visiting Albertus Magnus in non-league action on Wednesday evening on Granger Soccer Field.
The win for the Cougars marks the third straight season in which they have opened with a shutout victory.
Netminder Joanna Clark (Windham, Maine), who turned back four shots, recorded her 21st career shutout.
Junior Erin Peete (Clinton, Mass.) put Clark on the board with an unassisted tally a little more than midway through the first half.
The Cougars looked poised to score again in the opening stanza but freshman Lucia Pantuosco (Somers, Conn.) hit the right post on her attempt and senior Marie Sirois’ (Saco, Maine) shot scooted wide right.
Clark eventually put the game away in the second half when a pair of newcomers combined for the game’s second goal.
Janelle Pasternak (North Brookfield, Mass.) set up classmate Emma Lynch (Pawtucket, R.I.) for her first collegiate goal at the 57:01 mark.
Clark made the lead stand turning back two Albertus Magnus scoring chances in the final 45 minutes.
For the Falcons, Christina Oddo (East Haven, Conn.) made seven saves in goal.
The Cougars return to the field with a home contest against Allegheny College on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
