Divers Shine At Wheaton Invite
Norton, Mass. – In a prelude to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) swimming and diving championships, both the Clark men's and women's swimming and diving teams participated at the two-day Wheaton College Invite over the weekend.
No team scores were kept but several Cougars had outstanding performances against some of the elite programs in New England at Balfour Natatorium.
Freshman Breanna Tucker (Temecula, Calif.) achieved the NCAA Championships qualifying standard on the one-meter board (11 dives) with a score of 401.40, finishing in fourth place.
Eileen Garcia (New York, N.Y.), meanwhile, won both the 1-meter (464.10) and the 3-meter (527.15) events, also achieving the qualifying standard for 11 dives.
Mollie Kleyboecker (Albuquerque, N.M.) beat out three of her teammates in the 1,650-yard freestyle race in a time of 18:24.96, marking the second consecutive meet in which she has won a distance freestyle event.
Ryan Garr (Kingston, R.I.) edged out fellow All-American in MIT's Tony Chen by more than a second to claim the crown in the 100-yard backstroke (53.96).
Clark will have next weekend off as they prepare for the conference championships slated to begin on Friday, February 17 at MIT.
