Garr, Kleyboecker Shine For Cougars In Defeat
Wellesley, Mass. – Both the Clark University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams fell short of victories on Saturday afternoon in a tri-meet with Wellesley College and Roger Williams University.
The Blue defeated the Cougar women, 179-120 and then the Hawks posted a 164-136 win, while the men dropped a 191-96 decision to Roger Williams.
Mollie Kleyboecker (Albuquerque, N.M.) was the star of the day for the Cougars, collecting three individual wins and a relay victory. She touched the wall first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:09.22), the 200-yard backstroke (2:13.98) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:30.13).
She then teamed with Maura Houghton (Stoneham, Mass.), Emily Kates (North Hampton, N.H.) and Erin Smith (Carrollton, Texas) to post a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:52.76).
Houghton, meanwhile, also had a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (25.97) and a second-place performance in the 100-yard freestyle (57.62).
Joining Kleyboecker and Houghton in the winner’s column were Natalie Omary (New York, N.Y.) in the 200-yard IM (2:26.91) and Eileen Garcia (New York, N.Y.) on the three-meter board (275.95).
On the men’s side, it was All-American Ryan Garr (North Kingstown, R.I.), who like Kleyboecker, won three individual events and was part of a first-place relay team.
Garr collected victories in the 200-yard IM (2:01.35), the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.70) and the 100-yard backstroke (54.20). He also swam the first leg of a victorious of a 200-yard medley relay with Tim Sistare (Westford, Mass.), Clive Green (Portmore, Jamaica) and Cooper Hart (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.).
Clark also picked up wins by Alex Baez (New York, N.Y.) on the one-meter diving board (172.30) and Green, who took first in the 100-yard butterfly (56.68).
The Cougars are next in action the weekend of December 3 when they take part in Wesleyan University’s Cardinal Invite.
