Akerfelds, Garr, Garcia Collect Weekly Awards
Worcester, Mass. - Three members of the Clark
swimming and diving program have earned weekly awards it was
announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Senior Dana Akerfelds (Bronxville, N.Y.) was named
NEWMAC Women's Swimmer of the Week after helping the Cougars knock
off cross-town rival WPI. Against the Engineers she claimed the 200
IM (2:18.86) and the 100 Backstroke (1:02.12) and was a member of
the first-place 200 Medley Relay squad (1:59.22).
Then at the Wheaton Invite, she finished first in the 200
Backstroke (2:13.35) and second in the 200 IM (2:19.46).
Sophomore Ryan Garr (Kingston, R.I.) was named
NEWMAC Men's Swimmer of the Week for the third time this season
following a week in that started off with a pair of individual wins
over WPI in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.19) and 100-yard
backstroke (53.58) and also a victory in the 200-yard Medley Relay
(1:41.93).
Then in the Wheaton Invite, he captured first-place in both the
100-yard backstroke (53.68) and 200-yard backstroke (1:54.93).
Eileen Garcia (New York, N.Y.), meanwhile,
snatched her sixth NEWMAC Women's Diver of the Week award this
season after sweeping both the 1-meter and 3-meter events at the
Cougars' dual meet with WPI in her lone action of the week.
On the 1-meter board, she registered a 295.95 and then on the
three-meter, she turned in a 324.60.
She has now been named the women's diver of the week for three
straight weeks.
The Clark women return to action in two weeks at the conference
championships hosted by Wellesley, while the men will have three
weeks rest before returning to the very same pool for the NEWMAC
Championships.
