Garr Grabs NEWMAC Crown As Cougars Stand In Sixth
Norton, Mass. - Clark sophomore sensation
Ryan Garr (Kingston, R.I.) claimed his second
NEWMAC crown picking up the 100-yard backstroke title with a
school-record and pool record time of 50.75, shaving nearly two
seconds off of his previous mark, helping the Cougars to its sixth
place position after two days of the 2010 NEWMAC Men's Swimming
Championships hosted by Wheaton College. He won the 200-yard
backstroke title in 2009.
In the finals of the 200-yard Medley Relay, Garr teamed up with
Mike Smith (Milford, Conn.), Lamar
Duffy (Pen Argyl, Pa.) and Dan Howard
(Bow, N.H.) to establish a school record with a time of 1:38.41, as
the group turned in a fifth place finish.
Howad's 16th place finish in the 400 IM with a time a 4:30.81, was
the fifth fastest time in school history.
Smith, meanwhile, had a 11th place showing in the 100-yard
breaststroke turning in a time of 1:02.70, also good for fifth on
the school's list.
Another relay foursome - this time the 800-yard medley relay -
which featured Smith, Duffy, Alex Kappel and
Taylor Morono - posted the school's second fastest
time (7:21.78).
The final day of events begin on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
