Cougars Roll Past Bears In Non-League Dual Meet

Bridgewater, Mass. - The two Clark swimming and diving teams took first place in 20 of the 26 events, including the first six and cruised to wins in a non-league dual meet at Bridgewater State on Wednesday.

The men's score was Clark 153-53, while the women won 136-74.

On the women's side, sophomore All-America Eileen Garcia (New York, N.Y.) swept both the one-meter and three-meter diving events, setting a new school record in the process. Her score of 277.75 shattered her old record of 268.25 set last year. It marks the third straight meet in which Garcia has swept both events.

Both Dana Akerfelds (Bronxville, N.Y.) and Erin Smith (Carrollton, Texas) were multiple event winners for Clark, who improved to 4-0 on the season.

The Cougar men also had multiple event winners. Graduate student Mike Smith (Milford, Conn.) finished first in both the 1,000-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle and sophomore Lamar Duffy (Pen Argyl, Pa.) picked up a pair of wins in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly.

Both Clark teams are back in action on Saturday, December 5 at Wesleyan University's Cardinal Invitational.
