Melkonian Featured In Sports Illustrated
For the second time this year, a Clark University student-athlete will be featured in the world's most prominent sports magazine. First-year, two-sport star Mel Melkonian (Worcester, Mass.) will appear in the May 31, 2010 edition of Sports Illustrated's famed "Faces In The Crowd" section the magazine announced on Wednesday. The issue, which hits newsstands on Thursday and has Boston Celtics All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo on the cover, details Melkonian's exploits in both field hockey and softball.

Babson senior Danielle Liska allowed just a run on four hits while striking out eight and third-seeded Babson scored six runs in the second en route to a 9-1, five-inning, win over fifth-seeded Clark in an elimination game in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference softball tournament.

Third-seeded Wellesley jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings, but had to hold off fifth-seeded Clark, 5-4 as junior centerfielder Brittany Bakacs threw out senior Melissa Traft (Milton, Mass.), the tying run, at the plate to end the game, propelling the Blue into the winners bracket in the 2010 NEWMAC Softball Tournament.
