Cougars Sixth At NEWMAC Championships
Worcester, Mass. - For the second straight
season, Smith College captured the New England Women's and Men's
Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Rowing Championship on a rainy
Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester on Saturday morning.
The Pioneers edged out Wellesley by three-tenths of a second to
claim the program's third title in the last six years and their
sixth overall.
In addition to their first-place finish in the Varsity Eight race,
Smith won its second straight Florence Jope Smith Cup, which is
awarded to the program with the most overall points in the day's
races.
The defending champions crossed the finish line in a time of
6:59.8, just ahead of Wellesley (7:00.1), while Coast Guard
finished third and Mount Holyoke ended up fourth. WPI and Clark
rounded out the six boat contingent.

claimed the title in the Second Varsity Eight (7:11.0).
The Coach of the Year as well as the conference's sportsmanship
