Terriers Stun Host Cougars, 2-0
Worcester, Mass. – Thomas College freshman Casey Castle scored two goals in a span of less than two minutes in the 87th and 89th minute to propel the visiting Terriers to a dramatic 2-0 win over host Clark University in non-league men’s soccer action on Wednesday evening on Granger Field.
The win for Thomas College moves their record to 2-2-2, while the Cougars drop their third consecutive game to slip to 3-3.
It also marks the third straight contest in which Clark has been held scoreless something that hasn’t happened since the end of the 2003 season.
The Cougars held a 14-6 edge in shots but couldn’t convert any of their scoring opportunities. One of the best chances Clark had came in the 27th minute when Baran Doenmez (Dublin, N.H.) fired a shot from the left side that smacked off of the crossbar.
The game seemed to be headed for extra time when Castle took a feed from Chimdike Okorie and beat Cougar keeper Ryan King (Brimfield, Mass.).
Castle was at it again as he outraced the Clark defense made a move to shake a defender and found himself one-on-one with King, who he beat with a low shot that moved left to right.
Mikkail Crockwell made five stops for the Terriers, while King turned back a pair for the Cougars.
Clark opens up NEWMAC play on Saturday with a road trip to WPI, while Thomas visits Southern Maine on Tuesday.
