Arsenault Assault In 4-0 Win

Worcester, Mass. – Clark freshman Brian Arsenault (Portland, Maine) continued the hot start to his inaugural campaign by handing out a pair of assists as Clark posted a convincing 4-0 win over Becker College in the opening round of the 2010 Worcester City Men’s Soccer Tournament on Granger Field Friday afternoon.

In Clark’s last two meetings with the Hawks, they have outscored Becker 11-0 and have outshot them 54-9 including today’s 23-5 edge.

Along with Arsenault, classmates Kenny Vera (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and Josh Demers (Warwick, R.I.) each netted their first collegiate goals and senior co-captain Baran Doenmez (Dublin, N.H.) notched a pair of scores.

Although the Cougars held a sizable edge in first half shots (16-2), Vera’s goal in the 27th minute was all they had to show for it in the first 45 minutes.

Things changed almost immediately in the second stanza as Doenmez took a feed from Arsenault and gave Clark a 2-0 edge less than two minutes into the second half.

Arsenault then connected with Demers a little more than two minutes later giving the Cougars a 3-0 advantage.

Doenmez capped off the scoring in the 64th minute when Demers set him up for his third goal of the season.

Sophomore netminder Ryan King (Brimfield, Mass.) recorded his fifth career shutout in the win and has not allowed a goal this season.

The Hawks’ goalkeeper Tim McDonald (Holden, Mass.) played well in his first career contest, turning back ten shots.

Clark, which is 2-0 for the first time since 2006, returns to the field on Sunday when they play Anna Maria at Becker College beginning at 12 noon. The Hawks, meanwhile, host WPI beginning at 2:30 p.m.
