WESTWOOD, Mass. - The Clark Univeristy men's lacrosse team was tabbed third in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) 2018 Men's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches' Poll as announced by the league office on Thursday morning. After claiming the programs 10th consecutive conference crown last spring the Springfield Pride have been tabbed as the preseason favorites, claiming seven first place votes. Voting for the preseason poll is conducted by the head men's lacrosse coaches.
In 2017 the Cougars appeared in the program's first-ever New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) title game. Head Coach Jeff Cohen was named the NEWMAC Coach of the Year after guiding the Scarlet and White to a record breaking season. The Cougars set a school-record 13 wins and a share of the regular season conference title by setting a school-record for conference victories (6). 2017 saw the Cougars go 7-1 at home, tie the school record for consecutive wins (6) and set season benchmarks for points (310), goals scored (194) and assists (116).
The Babson Beavers earned one first place vote as they are slated at No. 2 in the poll followed by the 2017 Runner Up and Co-Regular Season Champions, Clark University at No. 3. Coast Guard was placed at No. 4 while MIT sits at No. 5 followed by No. 6 Wheaton, No. 7 Mass. Maritime and No. 8 Emerson.
The NEWMAC is looking forward to the 2018 season as it welcomes back 12 All-Conference Honorees, two All-Region selections and two All-America Honorable Mention winners, Babson's Jack O'Donoghue and Springfield's Jake Reynolds who is also returning as the 2017 Defensive Player of the Year.
