Melkonian Named NEWMAC Player of the Week

Babson Park, Mass. – Following an outstanding start to her sophomore season, second-year forward Mel Melkonian (Worcester, Mass.) has been named NEWMAC Field Hockey Player of the Week it was announced by the conference office on Monday.

It marks the second time in her career that she has recived the weekly award.

Melkonian opened up the season in fine fashion registering two goals and an assist in the 3-2 win over Worcester State last Thursday.

Then in a 7-2 win over New England College in the Cougars’ home opener, Melkonian exploded for a career-high five goals – one shy of the school record of six set by Elaine Siddall in 1984 against Barrington.

Aided by Melkonian’s hot start, Clark is off to a 2-0 record for the first time since 2004.

Clark will look to improve to 3-0 on Tuesday when they host UMass-Dartmouth beginning at 7:00 p.m.
