Clark Athletics Celebrates D3 Week

Clark Athletics Celebrates D3 Week

Worcester, Mass. – Along with countless other athletic departments across the country, Clark University will begin celebrating NCAA Division III Week on Monday, April 3 it has been announced.

Several activities had been planned to honor the commitment and dedication of the more than 300 Division III student-athletes that comprise the Clark University athletics program and that number represents better than ten percent of the overall student population.

Division III Week is a positive opportunity for all individuals associated with a Division III institution to observe and celebrate the impact athletics and student-athletes have on campus and in the surrounding community. During the week, every Division III school and conference office is encouraged to conduct an outreach activity that falls into one of three categories: academic accomplishment; athletic experience; or leadership/community service/campus involvement. Division III Week is a strategic initiative that achieves its desired impact from a unity of effort. It harnesses everyone working toward the same goal at the same time to build a greater awareness and understanding of Division III athletics.

One of the highlights scheduled for the week is "Cougar Pride Day", where we are asking anyone and everyone to wear either Clark Athletics attire or other apparel with the University's school colors – Red and White – on Thursday, April 6. All of those individuals are then being asked to come to the Kneller Athletic Center to take a group photo.

As is the case with student-athletes at all levels of the NCAA but specifically in Division III and at Clark, academics is always a focus. To that end, the Department of Athletics will honor any student-athlete who was named the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference team either in the Fall of 2016, the Winter of 2017 or the Spring of 2016 on Saturday, April 8 at halftime of the lacrosse contest against Coast Guard.

Members of various programs will take over the Athletics social media platforms and give followers a unique look at what it means to be a Division III student-athlete.

In addition to those events, there will be numerous home athletic events throughout the week where Clark student-athletes will put all the offseason training, early morning weightlifting sessions and late night practices to use against other institutions.
