Northbridge Wins 2011 Large School Championship

Worcester, Mass. – Third-seeded Northbridge had three players in double figures led by Corey Pryor’s game-high 19 points and the Rams never trailed as they captured the 2011 Large School Championship on Saturday evening with a 60-50 win over fourth-seeded Groton-Dunstable.

The loss for the Crusaders ends their bid to become just the third team to win three consecutive large school titles.

In addition to Pryor’s point total, Northbridge also got 13 points and six rebounds from Jake Ratcliffe and ten points, nine rebounds and four blocks from Harrison Murphy.

The Rams raced out to a 16-8 lead after the first quarter and led by as many as 16 in the opening moments of the fourth frame.

Northbridge shot 48 percent from the field (24-for-50), including a sizzling 61 percent in the second half. They also controlled the glass, outrebounding Groton-Dunstable 40-27.

Will Peregoy and Nate Pomeroy each had 11 points for the Crusaders, while Liam Barberich added ten of his own. Peregoy added eight rebounds, a game-high five assists and three steals in 31 minutes.

Both teams will continue their season next week in the Central Massachusetts District Tournament. The Rams, seeded third in the Division II bracket, will host the sixth-seeded Crusaders on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
