High Five: Fifth Year Pushes Donations Total Past 4,000 Pounds

Worcester, Mass. – For the fifth consecutive Halloween, Clark University student-athletes participated in the “Trick or Treat For Canned Goods” initiative in which they collect canned goods and non-perishable items that they donate to the Worcester County Food Bank.

With the 2011 total of 340 pounds, the ongoing partnership with the Food Bank and the University’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has now seen the Clark student-athletes deliver more than 4,000 pounds of food, which goes directly to providing help and hope to families in the Worcester community.

One week prior to the collection of the goods, student-athletes went door-to-door with flyers, alerting members of the neighborhood about their need for items to donate.

After the items were collected they were sorted by members of the SAAC Executive Board then transported to the Food Bank for weighing and eventual distribution to needy families and individuals in central Massachusetts.

“Thanks once again to the Clark University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for their generosity of time, effort, and enthusiasm in conducting their annual food drive to support the Worcester County Food Bank in its mission to create a hunger-free community,” said Lois Pare, Director of Programs and Operations at the Worcester County Food Bank.
