21 Student-Athletes Honored For Academics

Babson Park, Mass. – 21 Clark University student-athletes have been named to their respective sport’s academic all-conference team it was announced recently by the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) office.

In order to be selected, honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2010 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at his or her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

In addition to the individual awards, men’s cross country and women’s tennis were named recipients of their sport’s sportsmanship awards. Internally, they become the sixth and seventh teams to win the award following field hockey (2006, 2008), men's basketball (2008), men’s cross country (2009) women's tennis (2009, 2010). Women’s tennis joins field hockey as the only two-time honorees and they are the first team in school history to win the award in consecutive seasons.

Of the 21 student-athletes honored, seven were selected a season ago and one of them – Emily Schweitzer (Northampton, Mass.) – is the only three-time honoree.
